FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the Difference between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist?

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (completed medical school and residency training) with special training in psychiatry. In the treatment of mental illness, psychiatrists can prescribe medications and other medical treatments, and can also conduct psychotherapy. A psychologist is a professional with extensive training in research or clinical practice who usually holds an advanced degree (most commonly in clinical psychology). Psychologists treat mental illness primarily with psychotherapy, and some psychologists specialize further in psychological testing and evaluation.

Do you Accept Insurance?

Dr. Lienhard is an out-of-network provider, which means he does not accept insurance. He does provide forms that clients can submit to their insurance companies to obtain out-of-network reimbursement. Prospective clients should call the number on the back of their insurance cards to learn about their out-of-network benefits. Please be advised that many workplaces offer their employees a healthcare flexible spending account (FSA), which allows clients to use pre-tax dollars for medical treatment costs. Michael Lienhard Psychiatry L.L.C. accepts cash, checks, all major credit cards, Zelle, and flexible spending accounts for payment.

Do you Offer Video or Phone Sessions?

Dr. Lienhard prefers to see clients in person at the office, though telehealth sessions are available under the appropriate circumstances. Video sessions are arranged using a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. Phone sessions, while also available, are not typically reimbursed by insurance.

How Can I Make an Appointment?

Prospective clients can make an appointment by calling (609) 875-1308, emailing info@mlpsychiatry.com, or using the form on the Contact page.

Dr. Lienhard will arrange for a free, brief phone consultation, where he will introduce himself and the practice, ask about clients’ reasons for seeking consultation, and answer any questions. If the client is interested in pursuing an appointment, Dr. Lienhard will send a link to Luminello (the secure electronic system used for charting, billing, and communicating with clients) where the client can complete intake forms and upload demographic and billing information. If preferred, clients may also receive blank intake packets through E-Mail or Mail, or clients may complete the intake paperwork in-person at the office. It is strongly recommended that intake paperwork be completed prior to attending the first appointment.
